Cowboys Love Thier Guns

It had been a week since Wyoming's historic win against Boise. There was one month left of regular season football. Only 4 games. The Cowboys were looking to remain undefeated in MW play and undefeated at home. It was a rivalry dating back to 1903 which continued on an annual occurrence when the opposing team joined the Mountain West in 2013. Last year, Wyoming had lost 58-27 on the road and now they were looking for revenge. They hoped to win yet another trophy, a .50 caliber shotgun, in a game known as the "Bridger's Battle."

November 4, 2016, Wyoming v. Utah State University, 8:15pm, War Memorial Stadium, Laramie, Wy. ESPN2.

The game was off to a fast start. The Cowboys scored on their first possession of the game with a solid throw to Gentry. 7-0. The Cowboys scored yet again in first quarter with a run from Hill. 14-0. The first quarter came to a close with a fantastic throw to Conway. After switching end zones at quarter change, this possession would continue with a pass to Maulhardt in the end zone. 21-0 Utah State would come back and score. 21-7. After another great possession, Allen kept the ball and jumped over the pile into the end zone, scoring once more. 28-7. With just over one minute left in the first half, Utah completed a long pass. But Wyoming came in for the tackle, knocking the ball loose, and recovering for a turn over. This resulted in one last touchdown making the score 35-7 heading into half time.

After a rough start to the second half, the Aggie's had scored three times, making the score 35-28. But Josh Allen was ready to show off his running skills again. After running for 47 yards, Allen threw the ball for Hollister, who was wide open, for the touchdown. 42-28. With the end of the third quarter and the start of the fourth, the Cowboys moved the ball down the field resulting in a field goal. 45-28. Utah would take over, but would throw an interception to Logan Wilson, Casper, Wy native. The Cowboys would take advantage of this and score once more to end the game. Final. 52-28. The opposite of last years score.

The team walked across the field towards the student section, shot gun in hand. The cheer team joined to sing Cowboy Joe.

The Wyoming Cowboys were now 7-2 over all, 5-0 in MW, and 5-0 at home. The Cowboys would remain at the top of the mountain division. The team would receive more votes this week, moving up to No. 31 in the coaches poll and 34 in AP. Time for the Next one.

Until next time
Ashley
