Coming home after a devastating loss can be rough. The fans may be doubtful, unexcited and reluctant to attend the game. The team was 1-1. How would they respond to last week? The outcome of this game could determine the rest of the season. Would we lose and have a loosing record? Would we win and have a winning record, remaining undefeated at home? We were predicted to win. But for the Cowboys, that meant nothing. Last season, we lost the games we were predicted to win. The team knew they had to stay humble and hungry. And they sure were.
September 17, 2016, Wyoming v UC-Davis, 2:00pm, War Memorial Stadium, Laramie, Wy.
We arrived at 11:00 and headed to Cowboy walk. This week was coed's turn to walk around the tailgate, interacting with fans and selling raffle tickets. As Western Thunder and the all girl cheerleaders entered the tailgate area, coed joined them, escorting the football team to the stadium. We returned inside and began warming-up for the game. We focused, as we needed to change our pyramids due to a teammate who was out of town.
We headed to the field for pregame, running to our spots on the field. It was the first pregame of the season, as we did not do pregame for the first game due to the rain delay. I was excited to be back in the middle of the field performing alongside my team. When we finished pregame, we ran to the corner of the field and the entire stadium cheered as the football team ran onto the field. It was officially game time.
The Cowboys started the game on a great note, with an touchdown early in the first quarter, followed by a defensive interception and huge return to the red zone, resulting yet another touchdown. Up 14-0. The Cowboys continued to fight hard throughout the 1st half. With the addition of two long throws to the end zone, and a huge run play to the end zone, the Cowboys had added three more touchdowns. 34-9 headed into halftime.
After a much slower start to the second half and an Aggie touchdown, the Cowboys offense was back on the field. The Cowboys were in the red zone yet again. This time the touchdown came in form of a QB keep. Now for the defense. They took the field, holding the Aggies, applying pressure on the 3rd down. The ball was aimlessly thrown. Cowboys recover, but were only able to get a field goal. An uneventful 4th quarter resulted in an Aggies score. The game came to a close.
Final score. Wyoming 45. UC-Davis 22. The Cowboys had won and advanced to 2-1. A winning record and remained undefeated at home. We ran across the field and joined the team in the singing of Ragtime Cowboy Joe in front of the amazing fans. Yet another successful home game.
Until next time,
Ashley
