Occupy Kindergarten

When I was in Kindergarten, I remember doing a lot of circle time, singing songs, taking naps and fine motor trays.
Very similar to the set up on this website

Bug Themed Fine Motor Shelf at Trillium Montessori

But with the push down of standards, kindergarten had turned in to a "worksheet factory" consisting of forced work and reading, and no consideration for developmental patterns or social skills. But it is possible to avoid being out in a box as a teachers. Here's how.

Welcome!!

Welcome!!
I'm super excited to share with you. I plan on writing about my daily adventures, the new and exciting things happening in my life, and some tid bits for teachers that I learn in my classes.

First a little about me.
I'm currently a sophomore at the University of Wyoming. I am majoring in Elementary Education with a minor in Early Childhood Education. One day I hope to teach 1st or second grade, but the more I'm in my early childhood classes the more I contemplate Kindergarten. I would also love to coach a high school team, but that's a long ways away.

This is my second year as a member of the UW cheer team. I am a flyer on the all girl team. I have been cheering since my freshmen year in high school so this is my 6th year. WOW!! I cant believe I've been doing this for 6 years. I'm surprised my body isn't more beat up.

WOW!! That was me at my first football game my freshmen year in high school. I look like a baby.

 This is me now!!

I also work as a carhop (I skate when there isn't snow and ice) at Sonic. Its my first and only job. So far. But I've been there for 3 1/2 years. I might say I hate it, but I would go anywhere else. At least until I start teaching.

 Stay tuned for more!!
